Learn to Skate the Glenview Ice Center Way!
Whether you are looking for a competitive edge or just want to try a new form of recreation, the Glenview Ice Center Figure Skating School is the place for you to learn and have fun.
The Glenview Ice Center offers one of the most comprehensive instructional figure skating program in the area. The Ice Center has a figure skating class for every age group and every skill level. We pride ourselves on the team of instructors that we have assembled. Our philosophy is to provide the highest quality instruction at every skill level. But we also want our skaters to have fun and enjoy the pure experience of skating. Our program is led by our figure skating director Dorie Cascio, who has coached International and National level synchronized skating teams, is a member of the Professional Skating Association, Chicago Figure Skating Club and the Ice Skating Institute. Her knowledge in the sport is responsible for the success of our skating school.
U.S. Figure Skating Classes
Learning to skate is easy and fun! All it requires a little determination, a lot of practice and no fear of falling down! The Glenview Ice Center is pleased to be affiliated with the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program, the official learn-to-skate program of the national governing body for figure skating. The Basic Skills Program is fun, challenging and rewarding skating for all ages and abilities and serves the needs of both the recreational and competitive skater. The curriculum is designed to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning to skate from the time they begin their lessons until they reach their goals. To learn more about the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program, click here. To download a brochure and registration forms for our Spring 2010 Session of Figure Skating Lessons which begin March 8, click here. For a Figure Skating Registration form, click here.
In addition to full sessions of figure skating classes, two "Beginners Only" sessions are offered - one in September and one during Winter Carnival. These two or three-day mini classes are offered for beginners only aged 3-12 years. The registration fee includes rental skates. Watch this space in August for information on our Fall 2010 Beginners Only Figure Skating classes.
All figure skating class registrations must be brought in, mailed or faxed directly to the Ice Center for processing. Registrations will be accepted until the third class meets. Skaters enrolled in a current session will automatically receive the next session's brochure and may register before new skaters. New skaters may ask to receive a brochure by mail or fax or download them directly from this website.
Ice Show and Competition Opportunities
Glenview Ice Center figure skating students are invited to participate in the Glenview Ice Center's annual Ice Show held each spring as well as local and regional figure skating competitions held at the Ice Center.

Private Lessons
All of the figure skating professionals at Glenview Ice Center teach private lessons. Skaters may approach the professional of their choice directly or fill out a "Private Lesson Request Form" and submit it to the Figure Skating Director to be matched with a pro. Every pro sets his/her own lesson fee ($25-$35 per half-hour) and schedules his/her own lessons. Private lessons may be given during public sessions, Freestyle or Moves ice or on private ice reserved by the pro. Skaters must always pay for the ice time (at the rink office) before the lesson begins.
Figure Skating Practice Ice
For students wishing to work on their competitive routines or take private lessons, Practice Ice for figure skaters is offered in the form of Freestyle sessions and Moves in the Field sessions. During the skating season, Moves and Freestyle ice sessions are offered Monday through Friday in the morning and after school, and on Tuesday evenings.

Synchronized Skating Teams
Catch the excitement and fun of Synchronized Skating, the fastest growing segment of competitive figure skating, which combines the elegance of ice dancing and the intricacy of pairs. Synchronized skating teams move from straight lines to form patterns such as blocks, pinwheels, circles and intersections, all choreographed to music. Currently, the Glenview Ice Center fields three Synchronized Teams: Mini Blades, a Junior Youth formation team, made up of 12-20 skaters mainly ages 8 years or younger skating at Beta level and up; the Stellar Blades, a Youth formation team, which is made up of 15-20 skaters with most skaters ages 9-11 years skating at Freestyle 1 level and up; and the Junior Blades, a Youth skating team, made up of 15-20 skaters with most skaters between the ages of 9 and 11 skating at a level of Freestyle 4 or higher. Teams practice once a week and on some Fridays. Both teams compete locally throughout the season, ending with a final competition at an ISI National Event. Clinics and tryouts for teams are conducted in the Spring.
The success of Glenview's Synchro teams is due in large part to the efforts of the team families who make up the Glenview Blades Organization. Blades families volunteer at various functions throughout the year. The bulk of their volunteer efforts are geared towards fundraising to help defray team costs of items such as costumes, tights, t-shirts, team jackets, team dinners, competition entry fees and more.
