Fast and Fun
At the Glenview Ice Center, our hockey instructors don't just teach the skills needed to play the game of hockey; they are also committed to teaching our students that character counts on and off the ice.
Since 1987, our internationally recognized Hockey Director, Sylvain Turcotte, has built our hockey program into one of the strongest in the area. He has coached seven State Championship teams, four State runner-ups, three Silverstick AAA Championships, one Silverstick AA Championship and one Tier 1 National title and has had several students go on to play at the college level and beyond. Sylvain and his staff take special joy in sharing their enthusiasm for the game with their students and feel rewarded as they see their students progress from the fundamentals of skating through basic skills like puck handling, passing and shooting to the teamwork necessary for success in hockey as well as in life. Sylvain particularly enjoys working with very young skaters and is also gratified to see a growing number of girls in our area taking up the sport. The Ice Center’s step-by-step program is designed to help every student master skills at each level before moving on the next.
Getting Started - Introduction to Hockey
Each fall and during Winter Carnival the Glenview Ice Center offers a mini session called “Introduction to Development Hockey”. This mini session provides a superb opportunity for 3-10 year olds to try hockey without committing to a full session. All equipment is included in the fee. Click here for information on our Fall 2010 Intro to Development Hockey program.
The Next Step - Development Hockey Classes
Once your child has an interest in hockey, whether or not they take the introductory mini session, they can sign up for full sessions of Development Hockey Lessons which are offered for children ages 3-10. Children have the option of participating once or twice-a-week. Classes are offered for beginners, Level 1 players and Level 2 players. Players move up based on teacher recommendation.
The Glenview Ice Center will offer three sessions of Development Hockey classes during the 2010-2011 school year. For more information on Fall 2010 Devevleopment Hockey classes which begin Sept. 14, click here. To register online, click here.
Getting Serious - House League
Once a player has completed Level 2, he/she is ready to join the Glenview Grizzlies Youth Hockey League. It is open to all hockey players between the ages of 5 and 15 years. Everyone has the opportunity to play. Levels include Dynamite, Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam. The Dynamites and Mites compete against other Grizzly teams, while Pee Wees and Bantams also play games against local house league teams at area rinks.
Program fee includes team jersey, nameplate and USA Hockey registration. Rating sessions begin in September and 2010-2011 league play takes place October through March. Click here to download complete program information.
In the spring, the Glenview Ice Center offers a Spring 3 on 3 League for Dynamite through Bantam level players. Watch this space for registration information.
For the Really Serious - Travel League
The Glenview Stars is an “affiliate organization” of the Glenview Park District. The Stars is a travel hockey organization that is based out of the Glenview Ice Center. Players register through the Stars (not the park district) and travel locally and as far away as Canada to compete in games and tournaments. For information on the Glenview Stars Hockey Association, you can contact them directly at (847) 657-9171 or www.glenviewstars.org.
