Hockey

At the Glenview Ice Center, hockey is more than a game it is a philosophy. Our programs not only provide instruction but are committed to teaching our students that character counts on and off the ice.

Our Hockey Director, Sylvain Turcotte, has extensive experience with hockey. He was a player, coach and studied physical education in college. He won seven State Championships, four State runner ups, three Silverstick AAA Championships, one Silverstick AA Championship and one Tier 1 National title. He brings his passion, dedication and experience to the Glenview Ice Center’s hockey program.

Note: The Glenview Ice Center will be closed April 28-September 1 for mechanical renovations. Our hockey program as described below will resume in September. Watch this space for more information.

Open Hockey

Open Hockey, or "Rat Time" is pick up hockey for players age 16 and up. Full equipment is required. During the season, open hockey times are Tues. & Thurs., 12:15- 2 pm. Admission is $9 and goalies play free. A 10-time "Rat Pass" good for one year is available for $75.

Getting Started

Each fall and during Winter Carnival the Glenview Ice Center offers a mini session called “Introduction to Development Hockey”. This provides an opportunity for 3-8 year olds to try hockey without committing to a full session, even the rental skates are provided in the fee. To download the flyer for the next session of Introduction to Development Hockey, click here.

The Next Step

Once your child has an interest in hockey, whether or not they take the Introduction to Hockey, they can sign up for Development Hockey Lessons which are offered for children ages 3-8. Children have the option of participating once or twice-a-week. Classes are offered for beginners, Level 1 players and Level 2 players. They will move up based on teacher recommendation.

Development Hockey

The Ice Center will offer two sessions of Development Hockey classes plus two mini sessions for beginners during the 2007-2008 season.

Everyone has the opportunity to play. Teams include Dynamite, Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam levels. The Dynamites and Mites compete against other Grizzly teams, while Pee Wees and Bantams also play games against local house league teams at area rinks.

Program fee includes team jersey, nameplate and USA Hockey registration. Rating sessions begin in September and 2007-2008 league play takes place October through March. For the Really Serious

The Glenview Stars is an “affiliate organization” of the Glenview Park District. The Stars is a travel hockey league which is based out of the Glenview Ice Center. Players register through the Stars organization (not the park district) and travel locally and as far away as Canada to compete in games and tournaments. For information on the Glenview Stars Hockey Association, you can contact them directly at (847) 657-9171 or www.glenviewstars.org.
