Swim Lessons & Programs

Swim lessons available for all ages. Details below.

Starfish Swim School IMG_5459

The Glenview Park District offers a variety of swim lessons for children of all ages.

Which swim class is right for me?

Swim lessons will follow the nationally recognized swim instruction curriculum developed by Starfish Aquatics Institute for all levels. Benchmarks are established at each stage in the program to teach swimming and safety skills.

Register your child for the program that corresponds with his or her age:

  1. Starfish Swim School® for Preschoolers: 3-5 years
  2. Starfish Swim School® for Youth: 6-12 years
  3. Stroke School: for students 6-12 years who have all three levels of Starfish Swim School

All participants will be tested the first day to determine what stage they should start in. Participants will advance to the next stage once they complete the benchmark skills; participants may advance through more than one stage in a single session.

Private Lessons

Looking for a more individualized approach?  The Glenview Park District offers private swim lessons for participants 3 years to adult.  All swim instructors are certified by Starfish Aquatics Institute and undergo regular training. All lessons are 30 minutes long, and available at varying days and times.

COVID Updates

Safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority. Staff have worked hard to find ways to offer our programs and reopen our facilities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our team is working hard to operate with physical distancing, capacity limits and rigorous disinfecting protocols. We are following guidance from Starfish Aquatics Institute, PDRMA, Center for Disease Control and Illinois Department of Public Health and implementing operational adjustments to ensure the safety of participants and staff:

Health Assessments

  • When entering patrons will be asked to self-assess their health and the health of their children. If anyone is not feeling well, has a fever, shortness of breath or any COVID-19 like symptoms, or has recently been exposed to COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home.

Face Coverings Required

  • Face masks that cover the mouth and nose are required for all patrons over the age of 2 to enter. They must be worn when checking in, using the locker room and on the pool deck. Face coverings should be removed when swimmers enter the water.
  • Swim Instructors will be wearing a face covering when in the water teaching swim lessons. Staff on deck and lifeguards will be wearing a face covering

Social Distancing

  • Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your class is scheduled to start.
  • Swimmers should come dressed and ready for class to reduce the number of people in the changing areas and locker rooms.
  • Limit to 1 guardian per household to help reduce the number of people entering the building.
  • Please make sure all swimmers use the washroom at home before you come to swim lessons.
  • Parents are asked to maintain social distance from one another. Chairs in the viewing area will be set up at least 6 feet apart from each other.
  • Staff will do their best effort to keep their swimmers spaced out from one another in the pool and on deck.

Cleaning Protocols

  • You will notice increased attention to disinfecting efforts, with additional attention to high traffic areas and commonly touched facility elements. This will include all locker rooms, sinks, faucets, toilets, door handles, and showers.
  • Splash Landings will also provide antibacterial hand soaps and hand sanitizer.
  • Equipment will be disinfected between each class. Swimmers will not share equipment with other participants during the class.
