Grove Literary Society

In the tradition of the original Grove Literary Society established by Robert Kennicott and his father Dr. John, The Grove Heritage Association hosts a new book club that focuses on books about the natural history to better understand where and how we live. Spring on the Farm

Step back in time to experience a spring day on the farm in the 1920s. All ages are welcome. Here is a sneak peek at a few of the fun activities you will enjoy!

  • Meet the young livestock.
  • Take a wagon ride
  • Make rope and learn to tie knots
  • Help white-wash the barn
  • See how draft horses helped on farms 100 years ago
  • Watch a hand-milking demonstration (starting at 10 a.m.).
  • Discover what it really meant to do spring cleaning in the farmhouse.
  • Learn about cooking with seasonal produce
  • Make crafts to take home with you.
  • Get a jump-start on summer with ice cream from the Sweets and Treats Ice Cream Parlor.

Mother's Day Tea

Ages 13+
Take that very important person in your life out for a unique experience at The Grove. Guests will enjoy a three-course tea luncheon in the Historic 1856 Kennicott House. Learn proper tea etiquette and hear the Legend of the Fan. Service staff will be dressed in period attire. Hats will be provided or wear your own!

Mother's Day Brunch

Enjoy a beautiful Mother’s Day brunch with your family at Coarse Italian Restaurant; seatings are at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. Breakfast favorites include lemon ricotta pancakes, eggs benedict, shrimp cocktail, chicken limone and other chef exclusives. Spring Ice Show – “Golden Blades Through the Decades”

The Glenview Community Ice Center celebrates 50 years of showcasing amazing ice skating talent (1974-2024). The 50th Spring Ice Show will start in the 70’s when the Ice center opened and highlight the decades until now and feature exciting performances by tiny tots just learning to skate to competitive soloists and synchronized skating teams. Costumes, lights, music and imaginative scenery are sure to dazzle spectators. Don’t miss your opportunity to watch and support some amazing local talent!

Kids to Parks Day

Go Play Outside! Join The Grove for a national day of outdoor play, designed to connect kids and their families with their local, state and national parks and to create the next generation of park stewards and caretakers. Visit the Interpretive Center and experience some hands-on animal encounters, download the free Grove app and go on a self-guided Fairy Quest, or join us on a guided trail hike at 2 pm. No registration required. Meet at Interpretive Center.

Costumes, lights, music and imaginative scenery are sure to dazzle spectators. Don’t miss your opportunity to watch and support some amazing local talent!

Spring Restoration Day at Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie

For ages 8+

Assist in the restoration efforts at Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie by helping with a variety of restoration activities such as removing non-native invasive plants or collecting seed. Bring work gloves if you have them. For families and individuals Ages 8+. Volunteers under 15 must participate with an adult. Volunteers under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. To receive an application/ waiver in advance please contact grove.volunteers@glenviewparks.org. Work days may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

GHA Annual Plant Sale

This year’s plant sale features a great selection of hardy native plants from Midwest Groundcovers, including forbs, grasses and sedges, suitable for a variety of soil, moisture, and light conditions. These perennials are both beautiful and beneficial for pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.

The event is co-sponsored by the Grove Heritage Association and the Glenview Park District. Proceeds benefit The Grove.
